Garlic, Balsamic Vinegar & Olive Oil: Bread's Best Friend

I love comfort food on a cold night.  SO, over the weekend we went to Piatti, a local favorite in La Jolla, which offered friendly service and good comfy Italian. I thought my fish was good but it was the bread basket and vinegar with EVOO dipping that had me eating like a little piggy. We all had balsamic vinegar with olive oil at restaurants, but this was the first time I had this sort of savory dipping. Finely minced garlic, parsley and red pepper flakes were added to add a burst of flavor and zing. From my observation, I think garlic is mixed with balsamic vinegar first to maximize flavor. Olive oil, chili flakes and parsley were added before serving. I don't usually eat lots of bread before a meal but I actually ate a whole basket by myself because of the dipping. It was good! This will sure impress as a starter course. Have you tried this before?

  1. To say I tried it seems like an understatement, I live off oil with chillies and bread, it is the perfect pre starter before a meal, and for me an easy snack to quieten my loud stomach that grumbles!
