How To: Dressing Down Ruffle

I got this dress a while ago but only wore it once. Although I like the style and the silhouette, this dress is rather hard to wear unless a gal is going to a party, lounge or clubbing. Overall the dress is SO fluffy. Well, I am slightly too old to be cute. At 8, Savvy Niece will look adorable in a fluffy dress. Auntie Savvy on the other hand, will just look like she is trying too hard to be young. So what is a gal to do?
Well, I can't toss the dress because I actually do like it. Instead, I topped the dress with a casual grey denim jacket. This way, casual denim will balance out fluffy ruffle and weight down some of the fluffiness. I want to look feminine without going over the top or ending up looking like a tier cake. A fitted leather jacket will also do the trick. How else will you wear dresses of similar designs?

  4. I have tried the dress with blue denim jacket but I thought grey looks better because it is closer to the taupe tone.

  5. What a cute dress. Since I think I am the queen of cardigans, I'd pair it with a cardigan with a bright pop of color. I like the denim jacket idea as well.

  6. You look great, the color just works fantastically for you! And I agree, a jacket, either a leather or a denim one, is your best bet if you want to tone down a fancier bottom item.

  8. I love the texture of the dress and the ruffles are adorable. I can see it paired with a fitted and cropped leather jacket with some great booties to add some hard edge.

  9. I would have done something similar, I have an old military jacket that really brings anything too sweet and girly back to my level. The dress is lovely.

  16. Perfect!
I love this dress on you, and I love the idea with the jacket. When I tried it on I looked rather "puffy" lol, not a good look for me.
