How To Make Tod's Moccasins Rubber Beads Last Longer???

Recently a savvy reader wrote me regarding ways to care for Tod's moccasins. She wanted to know if there are ways to make these little rubber beads last longer? To be honest, these are driving shoes so long walks are not optimal for these beads. Individual beads will wear down. If this is not acceptable then it is best to buy something with full rubber sole so it is possible for replacement in the future. I do wear Tod's flats around town all the time, but I also rotate several pairs so not one pair is exposed to too much wear. The picture above is after 10 years. Since Tod's shoes are quite well made, sometimes rubber beads wear down faster than rest of the shoe. I don't want to just throw them away since each pair cost quite a bit so this is my solution....
I had my cobbler remove worn down beads and replace with rubber sole. Voila, these Tod's flats are good to go again. My cobbler charged me about $30. However one thing I noticed was the fit became slightly tighter than before.

  1. I resole a lot of shoes almost immediately. Your rubber one is a great fix on the Tod's!
