Although the idea of entertaining at home stresses many gals, I personally love to entertain at home because home environment is just more comfortable than at a restaurant. We are able to spread out and relax over a long period of time in a familiar environment. Over the weekend, Savvy Sis had a few gal pals over and with some advance planning, we were able to throw everything together relatively stress free.
When it comes to entertaining, presentation will score many brownie points and it really takes almost no time to plate everything nicely. Also adding fresh flowers and candles will instantly glam-up any presentation, even mundane pizza and sandwiches. For this luncheon, flower arrangements are set on 2 ends with 3 candles divided out evenly along the serving area. I scattered leaves and flowers around each candle to create continuity from the first floral arrangement to the 2nd arrangement.
We served lunch buffet style, dividing serving area into drink, fruits, main course and dessert sections. Since baking is not our forte, store purchased pastries, desserts and sandwiches are healthier for our guests. Keeping health in mind, we served fresh fruits and veggies to balance out pizza. Yes, we had a pizza party.
Last but not least, being a savvy hostess means sending guests home happy with lovely desserts, and a full tummy. I always try to make sure every guest feels comfortable going back for seconds. This means I may have to eat leftover the next day but the idea that my guests may go home hungry is just terribly unsavvy. Recently I started a new policy, guests can either take food home in the stomach or in a topperware box. This way, I feel great that everyone has enough and I have less leftover the next day. How do you like to entertain: at home or outside at a restaurant?
