As much as I enjoy cooking, baking is just not my forte. The other day, a sudden craving for cinnamon roll brought out the pastry chef in me. Well, I cheated, I used store bought ready-to-bake croissant roll.
Unroll dough into rectangles and sprinkle liberal amount of brown sugar and cinnamon on top. Add slices of cold butter and roll into long rolls. I didn't make these very sweet for health reason. I don't like store-bought cinnamon rolls because this gal usually overdose on sugar after one cinnamon roll.
Cut each roll into 3 sections, about one inch tall. Arrange all the pieces together so it will form a larger pastry which can be pull apart into little sections.
Bake at 375 degrees for about 13-15 minutes. The whole house smelled of butter, cinnamon and brown sugar. It was mouth watering just from the scent. Through my cheating method, I was able to enjoy home-baked pastry and control amount of sugar in these rolls. This is a perfect brunch pastry or just with a cup of tea on a cold afternoon.
Funny... I just pondered if I should make some to enchant my French in-laws for Xmas...
