Wearing Lace To Work?

During a fashion forum with Kate Lanphear at an Armani event, the question of lace in the workplace came up. One of the attendees wanted to know how should a gal wear lace to work.  According to Kate, lace and workplace really depend greatly on the type of work environment.  If your workplace is fashion forward then it is entirely appropriate. However, if you are working for a conservative firm, then lace may not be appropriate.
At the show, Kate paired a lace top inside a jacket. This look maybe workplace appropriate as a gal is covered up, showing only lace accent.  Also a gal can wear a camisole under a lace top with sleeves to make it more work friendly.
The last look is of the same lace top under the jacket. With a camisole underneath, the lace top acts more like a short sleeved jacket.  In the end, for me, I probably wouldn't wear a lace top to work at a conservative firm. However, in a more casual environment, I would totally sport the look above. What about you, would you wear lace to work?

  1. I agree that it depends on your workplace environment. Although I think the lace under a blazer look could be pulled off in a lot of environments without looking over the top or unprofessional. It's very pretty!

  2. The other thing with lace is that instead of looking too sexy it can look too matronly. That's how I feel about that first outfit.

  3. For me it depends on how well you can mix and match appropriately -- some women can't seem to get it right -- so dress on the safe side -- but I do think you can wear lace to a very conservative organization -- personally I am tired of seeing woman dress like men -- you can be fashionable stylish and in good taste Yes and wear lace to work.

  4. I'd do it (and I have!). I work in a fairly laidback office, so I'll risk wearing a lace tee (over a cami, of course) and a pencil skirt. But I make sure to be more conservative with my accessories so I don't cross a line!

  5. I absolutely think that lace under a good jacket/blazer is a do for any firm, conservative or not. Why not? I'm not a huige fan of the second look, though, where the lace IS the jacket.

  8. To me, lace and sheer are have very similar properties. I wear sheer tops often, usually layered under a cardigan or over a cami but I think I have 1 lace cami. I think if done right, lace works in conservative firms as does sheer.

    I say go for it.

  9. I don't see the problem of lace at the workplace, especially if worn with a jacket and cardi on top. Maybe a lace top on it's own might be problematic, depending on the work environment.

  10. Absolutely. But I don't work in a corporate atmosphere.

  11. I wear lace in small doses - a cami peeking out of a dress, for example. I work in a pretty free/casual environment though - I might err on the side of no lace if I worked somewhere that paid more attention to professional attire.

  12. I already do! I work in a creative field, though, so we can kind of do whatever as long as we're covered up.

  13. It definitely depends on the work environment and where you're wearing the lace.

  17. When I had a job, I wore a lace cami under a dress a few times. I felt it was modest and tasteful. I never went any further than that. I kind of wish I had experimented it with it more though. I'm sure there are hundreds of ways to incorporate lace into a stylish, modest work outfit. :)

  18. I think a lace cardigan would be perfectly fine. Hints of lace is safest. A lace overlain skirt would be pretty too with a blazer. xoxo

  20. My work is so casual that lace would actually be too fancy haha! I adore lace. I think it's elegant and chic when worn properly. I'd love to have a lace wedding dress.

  21. I love the 2nd look, but I would think it would probably be too dressy for work.

  22. I think a little bit of lace is okay if the rest of the outfit is conservative. But you are right, at a business-like work place, it's better to stay away.
