This dress is actually size 38 which is slightly big on me, as I usually take 34 or 36. However, I picked 38 over 36 because I preferred a slightly slouchy casual look. I have gal pals who would absolutely refuse to a piece because they had to take the next size up. I tell them all the time, it is about the fit, not the number on the tag.

Sparkle Chanel Dress & I Don't Obsess about Size
This dress is actually size 38 which is slightly big on me, as I usually take 34 or 36. However, I picked 38 over 36 because I preferred a slightly slouchy casual look. I have gal pals who would absolutely refuse to a piece because they had to take the next size up. I tell them all the time, it is about the fit, not the number on the tag.

Totally. I remember how I REFUSED to go the next size up when I was in high school and how uncomfortable I was. Then I realized that I didn't have to share the size with anyone and that I would prefer comfort over a number.
ReplyDeleteYou look absolutely gorgeous, btw!! :D
My motto is that you can always cut the tag out if you dont like what it says! Sizes dont bother me at all I often buy larger as I prefer looser fits, and I also buy larger and get things tailored too. If you buy something too small then there is nothing you can do about that! I adore your dress, stunning!
ReplyDeleteLucky U, SG! :-)

The dress looks GREAT on you! I love it how you just look so happy in the first pic :) And I wholeheartedly agree that it is always about the fit and not the number on the tag. I wear all sorts of sizes, depending on how I think a certain piece of clothing should look on me.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Lawgirl that a lot of women are so focused on the number on the tag - that they lose the importance of having a great fit. Depending on the brand, the style, or the cut - the size of my clothing can vary up to 2 sizes in either direction. I overlook it and focus on how the clothes fit my body - if the fit is impeccable nobody including myself is going to worry about the size.
ReplyDeleteI love the dress. It looks amazing on you and I love how you went for a slinker look.
I know people that get so caught up in size. For me it is about fit. Sometimes I go two sizes up in tees because I like an oversized fit.
ReplyDeleteBut Euro sizes, I will never understand them! I think US sizing is much easier.
Gorgeous Savvy! Classic chic look!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful dress and love the added flash (not vegas-style flash - classic flash).
ReplyDeleteWe ladies (and some men) do obsess too much over the dress size (I am a product of that as well). But there are some we wish would buy for fit over the number (aren't muffin tops sexy).
However, changing the mindset to "it's easier to have something taken in versus let out" is a better way at looking at fashion.
i totally agree with u its about the fit more than the size!
ReplyDeletenice dress!
xoxo jenna
Wise decision on the size~ casual elegant it is!
ReplyDeletestunning SG!!
xo
Don't obsess about size, obsess about fit.
ReplyDeleteAnd, you look great in this dress.
What an amazing dress,
ReplyDeleteI'm the same, I dress for what looks good not my size.
It is indeed a very lovely LBD! :) I like how you added an extra touch with the pearl belt- very Chanel like

I've gained quite a bit of weight since meeting my husband and for a long time I didn't want to change sizes. Till I realized it matters more than I'm COMFORTABLE and I'll look better wearing clothes that FIT.
ReplyDeleteI go up sizes all the time. Who cares?
ReplyDeleteLooks great and timeless.
ReplyDeleteI never, ever look at the size...everything varies so much. you look amazing. love this look on you. classic and timeless.
ReplyDeleteI don't get it when people refuse to go up a size. Is it really worth losing a cool dress over? I mean, not only are different brands wildly different when it comes to size, but so are different styles within brands. It's not shameful to realize that fact. If you allow yourself to go down a size if the garment calls for it, allow yourself to go up a size too! No biggie!
ReplyDeleteGreat dress btw - glad you didn't let the size stop you!
everyone is so size obsessed. but if a different size fits you and you look great in it, WHO CARES?!?!?!
ReplyDeleteyou look fabulous here!
I love this a size bigger- the slouchy look w/ the belt is perfect.
ReplyDeleteI definitely obsess about size rather than fit...but I'm getting better. It's just so hard to tell yourself that fit is more important when we're bombarded with size 0 models all the time!
ReplyDeleteI love this on you!!! And I agree...never about the size. I have some slacks that are size 10s while some are size 6s. Cuts vary so much that you can't look at the numbers. :) XOXO
ReplyDeleteWow, what a find! That Chanel number is amazing and I love the fit of it on you!

i love the necklace. i thought it was part of the garment at first.
ReplyDeletei don't care about clothing size that much. but i do care about my bra size. i don't like having a smaller bra size because im trying to gain weight and therefore smaller bra size (for the same pattern & brand only though cuz bra sizes vary from brand to brand & pattern) means i'm losing weight.
not happy. :D
LOL... I def seen my share of muffin tops walking around. I almost want to tell these gals they should go one or two size up. : )
ReplyDeleteyou look pretty! i love the dress and yes size doesn't matter only fit!
ReplyDeleteYou look great!
ReplyDeleteOh my word! I literally could not agree with you more about size and fit. Girls are forever trying to squeeze themselves into this little teeny size just so they can be like "I am a size 4" and you are looking at them like "uh, no honey, you're not". Who cares what size you wear? You look so much better when you just wear the size that fits you. When you squeeze into clothes that clearly don't fit, you look like a sausage...
ReplyDeleteOh and this dress is gorgeous on you, lovely!! You look stunning.
what a fab dress! my closet is an assortment of sizes. size ain't nothin' but a number.
ReplyDeleteI just wear whatever fits. It also depends on the brand. European brands I usually have to size waaaay up. Lol. I don't care.
ReplyDeleteThe dress looks great on you and I love the addition of the necklace. I actually thought it was part of the dress!
I totally agree with you SG... I don't worry about the number, I am more concerned about the fit. I usually get a size or two bigger just to get the fit I prefer.
ReplyDeleteI love you dress and the silver belt is such a fab accent. xoxo
You look fabulous, hon!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd you are soo right, it's all about fit. I've no problem going from a 24 to a 26 in jeans. As long as they fit.
xo
Great fit!
ReplyDeleteSize too big or not, that is one stunning purchase. You will cherish that forever.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous dress!
ReplyDeleteAnd I do think people spend too much time obsessing about size over fit...to the point that I think clothing companies are starting to manipulate sizes so people can feel better about themselves (i.e. a 6 today might have been a 10 back in the day).
It's sad, really. And shows how people are more concerned about how things look than how they feel.
I love the necklace as a belt--so creative!
ReplyDeleteI am so many different sizes in different brands. You are so right...it's all about the fit. And that gorgeous dress fits you perfectly!
ReplyDeleteWe def obsess over numbers way too much. It is all about fit and comfort before numbers for me. We're like this with the scale too. There have been times when I'm trying to lose a few lbs and that darn scale refuses to move despite the fact that my clothes are fitting better and I feel great. :)
ReplyDeleteSure is a beautiful dress and you flatter the dress as much as it flatters you!
ReplyDeleteSecretia
You look fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI think you have amazing style. You're photos are great as well! You should enter into LVCmag.com's Avenue Debut contest for a chance to win $1000 shopping spree at Bloomingdale's. More details here: http://lvcmag.com/EditorsPickArticle.aspx?id=3
ReplyDeleteYou look STUNNING!
ReplyDeleteSizes are all lies as each store has different sizing and sizes also differ between countries! I would go by actual measurements more. Love the idea of using a necklace as a belt, you look so chic!
ReplyDeleteThe dress is beautiful - but you look so radiant in it! It just seems so perfect for you!
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree with your comments about size - it's just a label and every brand cuts things differently. Heck, even within the same store, clothes can range in fit and size! I know it can be hard to look past the number, but it's not like your body ballooned up the moment you walked into a store! :-D
