The other day at Chanel, I was super flattered by my SA. Apparently she was amazed at the condition of this 12-year-old Chanel camera bag. She asked other sales to check out my brand new looking vintage bag. According to them, they wish all Chanel bags will be in this condition. As Chanel repairs/refurbishes bags for clients (for a fee), some really sad looking bags came back for badly needed TLC. I am currently trying to borrow-to-own this camera bag from Savvy Mom because the same SA also told me similar camera bags now retail for about $2400 ~ $2700 (for the larger size). See, when a gal invests in classic pieces, she can use it and be happy for a long time.
Growing up, my mom didn't have an issue with us girls buying designers bags in moderation. However, one thing she asked of Savvy Sis and me was to appreciate and take care of our investment pieces. I made mistakes in the past with bag care and ruined a bag or two. They were expensive lessons. Now, I do my best for bag longevity as retail prices grow exponentially. This is what I do to
care for my bags. Are you extra careful with your investment pieces and how do you care for your bag babies?

Oh gracious...why would anyone buy such an expensive bag and then abuse it? That makes no sense to me...
ReplyDeleteRidiculous! That bag is so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI will def own a chanel bag one day.
ReplyDeleteThey do it for a fee? Hmm, I don't know about Chanel here, but I do know that LV do it for free here in Moscow.
ReplyDeleteGoing to read your care tips in a little while :)
i usually try to store them within their bag cases/pillows if i'm not using them :) it helps lol
ReplyDeleteI love Chanel, I wish I could own a bag one day and I would definitely take care of it.
ReplyDeleteI try to remember to keep them in their dust bags. At first I am precious with my bags, but everything i own undergoes abuse.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous bag! Wow, it looks brand new...can't believe it is 12 years old.
ReplyDeleteI put them in their dust bags and never carry most of them in the rain, but that's about it.
ReplyDeletehubby bought me an expensive bag 3 yrs ago which i only used it twice.
ReplyDeletei'm scared that it will get stained, huh!
i just love to look at them in my closet.
Someone who would abuse such a pricey bag doesnt deserve it! I plan on keeping mine for the rest of my life and take very good care of them!
ReplyDeleteOh gosh yes one must care for our bags regardless of pedigree. I can't abide neglect of bags x
ReplyDeleteI'm inlove!!! Thats a very cute bag!!!!

Wow- that bag is in GREAT condition! Unfortunately, I should take better care of my bags. I tend to throw them around!
ReplyDelete12 year old Chanel camera bag??? fabulous bag!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is a tender subject for me bc I OVER CARE for my bags so much that I end up dust-bagging them and storing them in my closet for fear of ruining them...but I just started wearing my Chanel blk patent leather camera bag - so I am happy about this!
ReplyDeletePs - haven't fluffed the bows on my Valentinos yet - I have to do this finally!!
pps - I have the camel lambskin classic double flap and haven't worn it yet...do you know if Chanel suggests any type of leather spray or something to protect it or do I just wear it with care? XOXO darling ;-)
great bag...in great condition!! lurve it!
ReplyDeleteThat bag is to die for!
ReplyDeleteps I have a giveaway going on my blog. Stop by if you can to enter!
I am guilty of abusing my designer bags and learned to buy cheap ones but lately Ive been really disappointed on how easily they break and the same goes for my shoes.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing "care for bags" I'll definitely have to put it on use!
I put my bags into their dust bags and/or boxes when I'm not using them. If my Chanel 2.55 gets rained on, I'll get a soft microfibre cloth and wipe down the exterior before I put it away. More than one person has commented on how my bag looks brand new even though I've used it regularly/constantly for over a year now. :-)
ReplyDeleteMost of my bags do undergo some wear and tear because I use them so often, but I try my best to take care of them and minimize the signs of wear. You're right, these bags are an investment and a little TLC goes a long way.
I have the most trouble with people who insist on using a really special item every day yet simultaneously expect it to remain pristine. I have some helpful hints here: http://wendybrandes.com/blog/2008/03/helpful-hints-for-owners-of-precious-items/
ReplyDeleteWow, that bag is divine! Thanks for sharing the storage tips.

That SA was right, Savvy mom's bag is absolutely gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI'm really careful with my bags and actually my nicer ones don't get used that often for fear of ruining them. They're no where near as expensive as Chanel but I treat my Marc by Marc Jacobs/Vivienne Westwood bags with all the care they deserve! Though I do need to get a good leather cleaner!
Also, coffee beans was your fix during your university days? So intense!
That is a gorgeous bag! I adore the color, it's so beautiful. I love how fashions come back around, too. The chain is awesome!
ReplyDeleteI will admit that I don't treat my bag babies very well. To the point that my mom won't let me "adopt" her purses anymore. Boo. That woman adds to her collection on a quarterly basis and she has soooo many pieces i'd like to borrow. I guess I need to show her that i'm more responsible!
ReplyDeleteI didn't buy any investment piece until I was in my 20s when I could afford them myself. My parents never gifted us things like this - for big birthdays and occassions we always got jewelry and I love it bc a lot of it is vintage now:) I still wear the watch they gave me for my 16th birthday! As for bags...I am a bit over the top...depending on the bag, I wrap it in acid free paper and then keep them in their dusters...regardless, they lived in their dusters either in my closet or where ever I have room! :)
ReplyDeleteI am so impressed with 12 years! I am way too rough with bags and am a tiny bit sad to say that I have no original investment pieces. My favorite bag is a Marc Jacobs that I bought at a consignment store. I receive lots of compliments and thank goodness any dirt is guilt-free.
ReplyDeleteThat bag looks pristine! Wow! I am pretty anal about keeping my purses in great condition. They are always in their dust bags and away from the sun when not in use. I will have to go check out your handbag care post now!
ReplyDeleteoooh that bag looks fabulous! well since i just got mine.. it's mainly been in it's dust bag.. but i vow to use it AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.. while taking god care of it as well..
ReplyDeleteYour bag looks gorgeous- it definitely shows that you have taken care of it! I am the same way- I was given a few designer bags in my teen years from my parents and I completely dropped the ball on taking care of them, which I regret! Now that I buy them on my own, and I realize how special they are, I take care of them like crazy! Great post XOXO
ReplyDeleteit truly is gorgeous! thanks for sharing your bag care tips too!
ReplyDeletexs: loved the Cold Plasma, truly does what it said it will for my skin - I just wish the smell was better!
I'm the same way, actually even about really affordable pieces, I just take care of pretty much everything. I still have clothes from 10+ years ago that people think I've just gone out and bought (cause they're now back in trend :))
ReplyDeletei am not nearly as careful as i should be...i need to take lessons from you!
ReplyDeleteI think people should treat their items with respect. Just imagine the hours at the office it takes to earn the money to pay for some of these designer duds. To ruin them is almost a little disrespectful to yourself!
