Easy Fried Wantons @ Home & Dragon Fruit

I know fried egg roll and wantons are not exactly healthy living but I just adore them, especially if I get to dip fried wantons in spicy plum sauce. I don't have high tolerance for spicy food but I am attracted to spicy food like moth to fire. The other night, I had a couple friends over for dinner so I made fried wantons as appetizer. From my past experience, this pleased everyone almost without fail.
ingredients:
-2 part ground pork, 1 part shelled shrimps (cut in fine pieces)
-1 green scallion minced
-salt, pepper, sesame oil, white rice cooking wine
-wanton wraps
-mix ground pork, minced shrimp and scallions together
-one pinch of salt and pepper (I rather under flavor now and use dipping sauce to make up the difference than making the filling too salty.)
-a bit of sesame oil and cooking wine to add flavor and take away fishy shrimp smell
-place a little spoonful on the wanton skin and seal diagonally by applying a little water along the edge (*apply enough water only to wet the edges)
-These wantons might look flat but will puff up slightly after they are fried.
-fry until golden brown on both side and place on paper towel to remove excess oil
For this dish, I used mayonnaise and wasabi powder to make dipping sauce. But, there are ready made plum and sweet & sour sauces at Asian markets. What about you, do you like egg roll and fried wantons?

***Sweet and sour sauce is combination of sugar, a little pinch of salt, tomato paste, rice vinegar and thickens with corn starch water. ---I don't have exactly measurement. I just play around with the flavor until I am happy.
After dinner I served my friends dragon fruit. These are pretty common in Asia but I rarely see these here in the states. I saw some for sale at Gelson's Market at $10 per pound. Ouch! There is no need to pick out these tiny seeds and the fruit is slightly sweet. Other than that, there isn't much flavor but I like it. Are you adventurous when you encounter exotic food?

Hmmm...I love wontons and eggrolls. Anything fried really. I can't wait to go home and have these boiled in a lovely broth...or the fried ones with fried noodles. Whenever I am sick I crave wonton soup but there is no good one here.

Wow, that dragonfruit cost an arm and a leg. On the bright side, it is yummy. As long as something doesn't look too gross, I will try it at least once. ;) Your wontons look delish, A! I also love fried egg rolls especially the Vietnamese kind.

Now, that food looks heavenly. I love to make wontons, but yours look better then mine! I'm so bad at frying...at any rate, you've inspired me to make them once more, with the homemade sweet and sour sauce. I'm looking forward!

Oh yum, looks delicious! My sister also has made wontons and egg rolls from scratch for us. Maybe not the healthiest dinner, but they are just delicious.

I think I tried dragonfruit once and LOVED it, but had no idea what it is. Great to know!

That's an awesome recipe. I usually eat wontons in soup, not fried, but those looks tasty and with a plum sauce... :-)

You can also try pinching the edges of the wonton for a different look

I like dragonfruit, but only if it's fresh off the tree. :) Here shipped in North America, it's flavourless but pretty.

Style on a String ..because style has nothing to do with money.
