Maki Zushi & Strickland Ice Cream

We found a new sushi place the other day. From the outside, Maki Zushi off the 55 FWY in Tustin looked like a quick Japanese eatery but once we stepped inside the story was completely different. Of course there are different choices in case raw fish is not your cup of tea. But, if you like sashime and looks forward to trying different things then this is a good place. I have never tried live scallop before until now..... The taste is rather sweet and no fish smell at all.
We had something normal. It is lobster with mayo baked on top of a genuine crab meat roll.
Normally I adore ama ebi (sweet shrimp) but the Quail egg yolk is not my cup of tea. It is pretty though!
BF won't even consider fried shrimp head. It is actually pretty tasty. He is missing out!
We ate so much I forgot what these were already. The chef did something unusual with the wasabi root. Instead of grating it finely, he chopped it up and mixed with garlic and oil. It was delicious. It is the green mixture on top of these 4 sushi pieces.
Of course before we had dinner, we went to Strickland Ice Cream near UCI to have dessert first. BF and I shared. I liked the ice cream very much because it was not overly sweet and texture was very creamy and light.

  18. I haven't dared to try true sashimi before. I love sushi, though, and your lobster dish sounds incredible.

What does the fried shrimp head taste like? I'm curious - I love "regular" shrimp, so I might like it.
