I fished out this pair of Chanel sandal from its box after years of exile. Normally Savvy Sis and I do try our best to care for our shoes and bags so this pair is an exception. Savvy Sis borrowed this when she was big and pregnant. When a gal is carrying an extra load, the last thing she really care about is the state of her shoes. I didn't know a gal's shoe size could go one size up during this time of joy. Anyhoo, these sandals came back a little sorry looking.... The front and the back of the leather sole were worn through. I couldn't take a picture of the sorry state as some of you gals might want to throw a book at me.

This is one of those cases which I feel bad throwing them away because of the original retail price. So I took these to my cobbler and he gave me a look of disgust. He initially told me to just do away with them, but when I told him the cost he promised to do his best. He was able to attach leather sole to the front and the back. Now I feel a little better as my shoes won't look at me with disdain every time I look at them in the shoe closet. One thing I have learned from this ordeal is to avoid lamb leather with shoes and to add a sole the moment there is sign of wear. How do you take care of your shoes?
I'm like a mother with child, with my shoes!

actually, i dunno how to take care of my shoes...
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you were able to get these fixed. I don't have a pair of shoes worth getting fixed.
ReplyDeleteIt seems to be so comfortable and great for a summer day!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you were able to get them fixed! Any Chanel shoe is definitely worth saving!
ReplyDeletenote to self, do not wear nice expensive designer shoes when pregnant!!! =S good for you for saving it! haha!
ReplyDeleteHi there-glad to see you have got them fixed my dear! I do look after boots and shoes, its good for them to last for as long as possible.
ReplyDeleteSo glad he fixed them! I add rubber soles to most of my shoes - they last forever, become more comfortable and withstand icy, slippery sidewalks :)
ReplyDeleteI keep my heels in their boxes, and make sure to wipe them off if need be prior to storing them.
ReplyDeleteFlip flops I tend to purchase new each year.
Glad your cobbler could fix them! :)
I try my best, but when I sit, I'm just brutal to my shoes!
ReplyDeleteYou remind me that I have shoes that need fixing <3
ReplyDeleteI try to resole my shoes when they are looking trashed...
ReplyDeleteThat being said, I like to rotate my shoe selections enough that none of them get worn out!

I treat my expensive designer shoes like gold. Well, like they're worth more than gold. I don't wear them all the time because I'm afraid of wearing them down...plus I keep them all displayed on their original boxes in my closet. My family jokes I have a walk-in shoe museum.
ReplyDeleteBut yeah, if I had an issue like yours, I would have them fixed too. Chanel shoes are too priceless to throw away. :)
I just try to keep them clean and out of the rain...
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that you managed to repair them, you can't throw a Chanel:))
If I paid good money for a pair of shoes, I will keep them in their box when not wearing. If they were fairly inexpensive, they live on my shoe rack. ;) If I had those shoes, I would've also repaired them!
ReplyDeleteI just get mine fixed when I need to! I don't do much preventative work.
ReplyDeleteIf you ever do have to throw them away, just rip the C's off and turn them into earrings :)
