Is he trying to imply something? (His mind is racing at this point trying to find the right thing to say.) The poor man had to dig himself out of that one!
Back to the treatment, it was wonderfully relaxing and at the end of the facial, my skin literally glowed. BF got me a 90 minute Miracle Lift Facial which comprised of Japanese Miracle Lift Massage and a deluxe facial. The most painful part of the facial was the extraction process. This is when clogs/white heads are squeezed out from my face. I thought I had pretty good skin until last Saturday. I was sort of embarrassed. I called my aesthetician Olivia, the owner of the salon, Olivia the Ruthless. She is a riot and really great. When Savvy Sis had facial massage done every week before, she never put on makeup because her skin looked super healthy and glowed. I am thinking I need more facials.
Question 1: Why do I have white heads and clogs?
I found out white heads are caused by clogs from oil and impurity on the face. Olivia commented me using Creme de la Mer in summer is too rich for my skin since I have younger skin and too much rich lotion is not a good thing actually. The lesson is to pick out the right lotion to properly hydrate the skin without going over the top. I have stopped with the La Mer cream and switched to gel lotion during summer. I have learned to apply just enough lotion to hydrate. Putting more on will not make your skin more hydrated. Your skin will let you know via clogs and white heads that you are over doing the lotion or if you are using the incorrect lotion.
Question 2: How do I get smaller pores?
Olivia recommended microdermabrasion or peel. I found out since I have combination skin on the T-zone area, my nose and my forehead tend to have larger pores due to oil.
Well, what if a gal can't afford professional treatments then what should she do? I found out we can use alpha hydroxy facial wash to make sure exfoliation occurs regularly. I will make more of an effort to exfoliate my skin from now on. I used to do weekly but had become slight lazy.
It was a very relaxing afternoon and quite informative. If you are in the OC area, I do recommend Olivia's Expert Touch Salon. She is located in Corona Del Mar. (I swear I am not getting paid for saying this.) I can have all the facial in the world but if I don't take care of myself with lots of water, sunblock, exercise and a health diet, my skin will not have the natural health glow. It is about balance. So let me ask you this, what is your glowing skin secret?

oooh, I love massages and facials. So decadently relaxing! I think for glowing skin the key is to pick the right moisturizer. I use La Mer as well but only in the winter--it's too heavy for me in this heat. Great post, doll :-)
ReplyDeleteAh...I've tried the Miracle Lift Facial too, it certainly is pretty good.
ReplyDeleteOther than facials and massages, choosing the right serum's and creams is a must for me in terms of glowy skin.
Guerlain's Midnight Secret works wonders after a late night.
Hey darlin! I think I was using heavy wrinkle creams that I didn't need to do. I've switched to a lighter night cream, and noticed that my skin is less greasy and softer! What a great gift your BF gave you.
ReplyDeleteI love getting facials, your bf is def. a keeper.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great info.
Lucky girl, sweet BF :)
ReplyDeleteAnyway I love getting massages, never had any facial though. Maybe someday I'll get one but for now Im alright.

ReplyDeleteNow, on to the good stuff....
facials make my ♥/face sing! no doubt it's truly pampering, I mean, really it's so personal, just for you, etc. :)
What a little sweet pea the BF is! :)
Have a great day! Thanks for always leaving sweet comments on my blog! xo
How sweet of your bf to do that, Savvy! :) Yes, extra brownie points indeed!
ReplyDeleteI love getting facials sooo much. They are so relaxing and after wards you have a nice glow and smoother skin. I haven't tried the Miracle Lift facial but am intrigued now. Thank you for the rec!
I totally try to practice balance too but of course it's tough sometimes. I love exfoliating and doing masks at home! Oh, and drinking green tea and eating fish seems to help too. ;)
good tips i will have to look into the alpha hydroxy.
ReplyDeleteI have pretty large pores, and used to have really bad acne. I love getting facials, but I HATE the extractions. I know it's good for me, but I just want to relax!
ReplyDeleteSounds fab. I'm so glad you had a great time! What a sweet boyfriend. :)
ReplyDeleteI love facials, but have totally slacked on getting them. I do, however, have a pretty solid skincare routine that I follow....I swear by my clarisonic too
ReplyDeleteI have similar skin to yours, and I think I also should switch over to the gel lotion of La Mer. I'll save the creme from the winter time. Time to exfoliate my face as well! My pores are huge and my skin is so oily.
ReplyDeleteThis as such a great, informative post! Sounds like a wonderful treat!
ReplyDeleteWow, I loved reading this informative post! And the Miracle Lift Massage sounds wonderful :)

ReplyDeleteI wanted to take Olivia home with me! Or I told BF maybe we can buy the machine for home use. I love reading what other gals are using and I learn so much reading comments. Thanks everyone!
ReplyDeletehmmm that'd be cool to have your own facial machine at home... Think of all the money you can save heh. Mmmm I want smaller pores, I also have oily skin esp my t zone the pores are noticible around there... I need to try that out then!! :)
ReplyDeleteyeah I guess any publicity is better than none! Though soon Gaga is going to run out of clothes to wear and start going around naked! that's be interesting actually...
Your bf is so sweet! I've never had a facial before and I think I'm gonna wait till when I'm 60 or 70 :-). I always put sunscreen whenever I go out and try not to wear makeup too much! That's about it for my skin secrets. xxoxoxoxoxo
ReplyDeleteVery interesting! I've never gotten a facial but have always wanted one...
ReplyDeleteAwww , what a sweet boyfriend. I've never had a facial before, but I've wanted to try it.

I got facials regularly before my wedding and it made such a difference. After I got pregnant I stopped and haven't gone back. I really need that "glow" back!
ReplyDeleteSuch a treat getting pampered ;) Interesting before and after photos. Seems like it really works!
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of that kind of facial before but it sounds great! I definitely need a facial ASAP. My forehead is breaking out like crazy in this heat!
ReplyDeleteWOW!!! That sounds like something my skin needs! I've never had a real facial before. i've had some at home but my skin is sensitive but i also hve an oily tzone area so it makes things difficult... My secret for glowing skin is drinking lots of water and sweating! I always find my skin looks healthier after doing those two things and of course eating well!

This was so informative! and I too have been told not to use La mer during the summer because its too heavy..I will be getting a facial soon and will definitely ask more questions..for example, that lift, judging for the before and after pics, seem to work.. I wonder if you see the results more when you are older? awesome post!

That is so sweet of your boyfriend to give you a facial!
ReplyDeleteI have awful skin - prone to acne, but also prone to eczema, so I need to use thick moisturizer on certain spots and treat other spots for breakouts. I also have large pores. There really isn't much I can do about it beyond the plan my dermatologist & I have already worked out. I've considered trying a facial but worry that certain chemicals might irritate my sensitive skin, or that extraction could make my acne even worse.
how nice is your boyfriend!!!
ReplyDeletex
i never doing facial ever. i used Oriflame microdermabrassion once a year. i also used Oriflame day and night cream. oh..and Oriflame tomato mask.
