Bread Plate & Water Glass Placement?

As Savvy Niece is getting a little older, we think it's about time to start teaching her table etiquette. My mom started with us at a young age so we grew up fairly comfortable dining out, even at most exclusive restaurants. My friend taught me this really neat trick. Growing up, I had to memorize all the placements and which fork and knife to use. Also, if I absolutely don't remember, my parents told us to just sit back and watch others. Going back to the neat trick, the hand on left looks like a "B" for bread and the hand on right looks like a "D" for drink. It's not the end of the world if a gal uses the wrong bread plate but isn't it cool to know when the occasion calls for it?

  1. I simply must agree...Today children need to learn their manners. Mine definately know theirs. It's the ones that don't that make me wonder, what is this world coming to? Etiquette is classic and makes a statement that is highly looked upon.

  2. I absolutely agree about etiquette, I took classes when I was young and my children will do the same, it is SO important. I hated it at the time but I appreciate it now.

  4. My sister taught my nephew at an early age too. He was a little over 1 when he started using fork when eating. We can go fine dining and not worry about him making noise or running around. Early training pays off.

  6. I like this little trick! I'll have to remember it for when I have children one day. My grandmother always stressed the importance of proper table etiquette.

And that trick is great! I can never remember and I feel like a fool whilst I sit and choose random utensils in hopes of guessing correctly..
