Shopping Monday: Trendy Maxi Dress

With the economic downturn, Maxi dresses continue to dominate dress scene, replacing cute mini dresses as style du mode in 2009. SG adores soft flowing long dresses; they are very savvy and feminine without showing too much skin. My favorites are strapless and spaghetti strap Maxi dresses in bright colors and prints. Apparently SG is not the only one in adoration with long feminine dresses. Many a trendy celebs are sporting this trend with casual sandals and sky high heels. These two are SG's personal picks for the colors and the silhouettes. Since I am petite (5'4"), empire waist or asymmetrical hemline (shorter in front and longer in back) will elongate my shorter body frame. Empire waist works well with many body shapes.Gals with well endowed bust should avoid spaghetti straps, instead pick wider straps for support. I like No. 4 by Ella Moss too!SG tries to avoid voluminous skirts to spare myself the tent look. No matter the size, a voluminous dress always make a gal look horizontally challenged. Trust me, I am usually a size 0 and there are ugly moments when gal pal asks if I am pregnant and where is the ring.... (rude, right!) I tend to pick lighter fabrics for that soft flow.
If a gal is petite, she can also consider a shorter Maxi dress like No. 7.Maxi dresses pair well with flip flops, dressy sandals and high heels. For those tall gals (lucky), flats sandals will work better and petite gals, wearing chunky heels will add additional height and still keep with this casual Bohemian trend. I will just add tons of thin bracelets or a chunky one to complete the look.

  3. I'm 5'5 and feel I cannot wear a maxi dress, however my best friend is 5'3" and she totally rocks the maxi dress. Once again, its all in the attitude (well that and the cut).

  8. I love maxi dresses! But I never thought I could wear them because I'm 5'4" and very busty. But then one day I found a brightly-colored, ethnic-print one and just tried it on. It needed a tank top underneath due to my need for a heavy-duty bra, but that didn't matter ... it looked surprisingly pretty! My mother, who has a sharp eye for what looks good or bad, clothes-wise, really loves it on me. It's a perfect summer style!

  10. YOu know, I don't usually love these as a whole. But occasionally, I will see a celebrity wearing one and this it's beautiful. And these would NOT look good on me.
