Shopping Monday: Not Just Any Black Coat

Like LBD, a black coat is a gal's wardrobe must-have, especially for chilly winter days. However, it's always refreshing to see black coats with interesting details instead of just solid black. As much as SG adores basic plain black, I am now leaning more toward unique black coats with characters to help show off a bit of personality. Solid black coats seem to say classic conservative while coats with details seem to say fun with a dash of savvy style. Interesting details such as ruffles, pleats, prints and buttons just make basic black coats stand out from the rest.left to right: Ralph Lauren, Versace, Antonio Berardi
Left to right:
Juicy Couture Double Breast Peacoat $495
Dolce Gabbana black ruffle taffeta coat $2795
Philip Lim 3.1 black wool ruffle coat $795 (SG is drooling over this lovely!)
Left to right:
Leifsdottir Boucle black coat $169
Burberry tonal black coat $1295
Milly gold button coat $695

To lead by example, SG recently purchased an interesting black coat which is fun and very stylish (I will post picture soon). So what is your preference, basic black or black with a twist?

  1. Well, I prefer black with a twist, but I know basic black can be timeless...

  9. I love the DG ruffle, but the price would deter me. The Leifsdottir though I can handle and it's SO cute!

  11. I agree, if you go for a black coat there needs to be some little twist or detail to add interest!
