Your First Designer Handbag?

While shopping with gal pal today, I saw a little girl about 9 or 10 years old carrying a Gucci bag. Wow, kids nowadays have it really good. I love to spoil my niece and nephew but I will not buy them premium designer products once they understand the idea of brands. It's cute to buy her little Burberry and Dior clothing when she is 2 years old and clueless but I don't want her to grow up with sense of entitlement. Let me ask this, will you buy your little girl a designer bag? And, will you do mommy and me like Angelina Jolie and her daughter?

I got my first Coach bag around age 17 after I was admitted early to several universities and colleges. Since then I have collected quite a few bags but never as exciting as my first of each brand, especially my first Chanel and Hermes. Now, I am still pretty excited whenever I buy a new bag but it's just another bag or tote. The excitement fades soon after. Ah..., the fond memory of that first coveted bag will always have a special place in my heart and closet. This is SG's first ever Chanel bag. So savvy guys and gals, when and what is your first designer bag?

  1. I received a hand me down Chanel bag from my mother. The first bag that was new and just for me was a Burberry bag.

  2. I'm quite sure I wouldn't buy my daughters a true designer bag until they were in university--or beyond. In fact, I'm a firm believer in buying your *own* designer gear.

  4. No!! My daughter will not be receiving designer bags when they are so young! I got a Burberry when I was 20.

  5. My parents got me a teeny tiny Fendi when I was little. It really didn't affect me either way!

  6. I guess when you have disposable money you can buy your kids designer bags.
I didn't get a designer bag and by that I mean Coach until Hubby bought me my first one.

  8. I've never actually even HAD a designer bag. I am so deprived! And no, I wouldn't buy one for my daughters...it would not be fair for them to get one before me! LOL

  10. My dad bought me a Dooney & Burke bag (is that considered designer??) when I was about 14 or 15. He even had my initials engraved on the little dangly tag!

I don't know about giving my kids designer bags at an early age... I'd really want her to be able to appreciate it and cherish it the way I cherish my bags.

  13. My parents made a point of letting us have what we need but not everything under the sun. I think it's cute to let my niece have little pieces here and there but I would leave the super pricey pieces until she is older. she already claim a kelly and a birkin bag not b/c they are Hermes but because they are brightly colored.
