The other day I had this super sushi craving so BF and I went to Bluefin for a deluxe dinner. The great thing about Bluefin is the location. It's located inside the Crystal Cove at Newport Coast so we can walk off our calories after our big meal. Without further delay, this is a sample of my yummy sushi dinner.
Fun facts about sushi:
-wasabi paste doesn't kill parasites/bacteria (But, SG heard fresh wasabi root produces enzyme that kills parasites/bacteria)
-some sushi place won't provide wasabi unless requested (b/c want patrons to taste sushi's natural flavor)
-it's okay to eat sushi pieces with your hand or chopsticks (I usually eat sushi with my hand)
-eat sushi/sashimi from lightest flavor to heaviest flavor (ask your chef to help you with selection)
Japanese Red Snapper flavor with sea salt for natural taste (sushi chef made sure we don't use wasabi anymore)
Sushi roll with rice paper (no rice = less calories)
Fatty tuna (aka O'toro) - So yummy with just a tiny dab of soy sauce
SG's favorite besides sweet shrimp sushi - Uni sushi
I never leave Bluefin without a spicy tuna roll.
Soft Shell Crab Roll with seaweed dust
Personally, SG thinks sushi is an acquired taste. The first time I had sushi, I had to swallow sashimi whole without chewing but now I relish eating these delicious raw fish. Bluefin is rather pricey. We were quite hungry so lunch was about $150 including tip. Yikes! So savvy people, are you a sushi person or raw fish is really not your cup of tea?
