I can't put my finger on it but something doesn't look right with the dress. Taking the top and the skirt elements apart, each looks quite stylish and elegant but they seem to contradict rather than complement each other. Do you like it? Available at Nordstrom by JS collection for $268.

ReplyDeleteyou are so right! high-waisted mermaid skirts are extremly tricky.
ReplyDeleteI'm no expert but there a few thing affecting that dress -Pherhaps it's the extreme black and white contrast. imagine that top being red, it's doesn't look as weird.
-Another thing is the the styling, picture the girl without the scarf, and with long hair, a big gold necklace and a small leather rectangular wallet.
- Another thing I think is that the round shape of the top does't work, I would rather have it with pointy edges. and some sparkle would be nice.
these are just opinions
I feel like it would look better in one nice jewel color.
ReplyDeletei really like the dress. granted you'd have to be thin to wear it. =/ i definitely wouldn't be able to pull it off. =/
ReplyDeleteLike the style but the color combo is wrong and the layered look seems a little odd on such a sleek style. I would probably do it with a solid color though. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm with you. It should be all the same color, or at least not that crazy contrast. Too mermaid-esque.
ReplyDelete(Thanks for stopping by.)
All that pleating on the bottom half... it looks weird.
ReplyDeleteFor me, it's a general feeling that the proportion is off. I think the black bit needs to be longer, or end lower, and the neckline is a bit low. Otherwise, I like it a lot.
ReplyDeletei see what you're saying...
ReplyDeletesomething just doesn't look right...
I agree, something's weird about all of the pleats/lines. They do not go well together. It looks mismatched, like the original outfit they had planned for the photoshoot didn't work so they just grabbed two random pieces from the wardrobe rack.
ReplyDeletehmmmmm.
I feel as if the skirt and the top were from totally different sets. It looks like a very 'unmatching' combination.
ReplyDeleteI'm not realy sure??? All I know I would not wear this... The bust area isn't flatering at all ;) I think it looks better on flat chested girl???
ReplyDeletelooks like two separate pieces to me. I actually like it though. ;)
ReplyDeleteit's quite elegant separately but together just doesn't look right.
ReplyDeleteI would prefer the black bit be in a smooth fabric rather than the textured fussiness. There is already a lot going on with the skirt.
ReplyDeleteHi there-I think Wendy is right, one colour would work so much better.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it is the white bottom?
ReplyDeleteHrrmm...
ReplyDeleteI think it's the horizontal stripes and yes, like Wendy and Sharon, a single colour would be better. It makes the model look like she has a short torso..
I think black should go with black, just one color will do, anyway it's the matching color.
ReplyDeleteAs simple as that, no need to worry of choosing the wrong color...
i'm not good into this. but i enjoy reading their comments. i'm learning. lol.
ReplyDeleteTricky to wear, but I do love the monochrome feel. :) Thanks for the lovely comment, I adore Pocahontas! ♥
