Update: I visited Valentino boutique after attending Chanel trunk show to see the tote first hand. In person, it is better than the picture, almost velvety from a distance but quite unique up close. I am guessing the tote is about 18 inches wide, so quite roomy and not very heavy at all. Satin rosettes are prettier up close and this floral tote is enough to pop even the most ordinary outfits. There are other colors available, brown, purple, and Valentino red (which SG thinks is the best color). However, I can see edges fraying already because delicate satin rosette rubbing against clothing and objects will cause these rosettes to become a little tattered over time, which is not savvy for SG. SA suggests I can just trim off frayed edges but that is too much effort for a bag.

SG usually gushes over Valentino pieces but what is going on here? I understand winter floral is mode du jour but this is not quite what I have in mind. This tote looks like a weekend project with Savvy Niece. I can buy a bunch of silk flowers and hot glue onto a bag to get the same look. Well, in case any gal is interested, it is available at Bergdorf Goodman for a mere price tag of $1950. I can think of better way to spend my savvy dollars. What about you?

A close up of silk rosettes for those curious gals.

That's quite special, SG. I don't know what to make of it. It's just too precious to carry my dirty stuff.. makeup bag, grubby mobile and shabby notebook. You know what I mean?
ReplyDeleteSomething about a bag full of flowers reads a little "old lady" to my minimalist eye. But it is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLOL @ the "weekend project" description.
ReplyDeletehm don't really like this bag...
ReplyDeleteit's a kind to special
yea i don't like this either... i wouldn't use it if someone gave it to me...
ReplyDeletePretty, pretty, pretty!
ReplyDeletequite lovely! but probably a bit much for me
ReplyDeleteThis is sucha gorgeous bag to carry! I love the colors & who can resist florals?!
ReplyDeleteDitto. I think money can be better spent! Not that the bag is ungle, but as you said... hey, I can make that myself! :D

yeah, it's kind of grandma...and a DIY project for sure
ReplyDeletei agree it's an unique bag but it's not an everyday or easy bag to use. it's a conversational piece for sure though.
ReplyDeletei agree with you - i like the version that came out earlier this year with just one large flower. this is a bit busy & trendy for what it costs!

Hi there-very pretty, but overpriced I think!
ReplyDeleteYou could wear just the bag. Really!
ReplyDeleteIt's pretty, but I bet that upon closer inspection, one would find the quality isn't there. I looked at a Valentino bag in Saks a little while ago, and found that the stitching wandered everywhere, unable to keep on a straight line. Hmm. For $1000+, I expect my stitching to be perfect.
ReplyDeleteI think the idea behind it is good, but it's one of those things that doesn't translate to reality too well. Thanks for the work fashion advice. :)
ReplyDeleteI can see how in person this bag would be beautiful, but it does look a little less interesting from afar- a bit 'bag-lady' to me. Let us know if you DIY!
ReplyDeleteMultiply that price tag by 10 and you've come mighty close to the cost of my first home--back in 1975--with my dearly departed husband. What in the world are they thinking?
ReplyDeleteI love the look of this bag, at least in pictures but I can see it would be dissappointing in real life. The workership and execution of these things needs to be impeccable, then it would have been an amazing bag and I still wouldn't have been able to afford it.
ReplyDeletethat bag is beautiful... but yes i would much rather make my own!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous !!
ReplyDeleteI want it !!
I don't really like it, it's too much for me.
ReplyDeleteflower power...it's gorgeous...black or anything dark velvet simple dress, boots, sleek hairstyle & this bag! Fab!!!
ReplyDeletei think this bag is lovely!!
ReplyDeleteOH la la - amazing colors and details!
