Can a Bag be an Investment?

Often to justify a purchase of a new must-have handbag, I will say "but, it's an investment!" So my savvy family (male members only) will reply instantly, "does it pay dividend quarterly?" How rude! Is a Hermes Birkin truly an investment or should we just admit we covet the bag and that is why we are paying $7000 for the little savvy darling! The cost of a Birkin or Kelly has doubled in the last 10 years, so by buying first, a gal is actually saving???? Personally, deep down I know a purchase is a purchase and has nothing to do with "investment" for the future, I just don't want to admit it. The most I can hope for is to make a savvy decision so a handbag costing thousands will give me many years of usage and utility or utils (happiness and satisfaction in economics). Do you invest in bags or just happy to buy bags, no excuses??

  1. I think a good bag is worth it, but only to the extent you can afford. I wouldn't go bankrupt over it. I use my bag everyday, all the time, so if it is a little expensive that is how I justify it!

I just buy whatever I want and don't think about it.

  3. I agree with the first comment. I think a classic bag can be a good investment, but who can really spend $7000 on a bag?

  4. i'm generally a price conscious shopper.. but i totally think for designer items, a bag is worth the investment.. you can get a lot more use from a bag.. then say a fancy dress.. (you can only wear it so many times before ppl notice you repeating it.. haha)

  5. I definitely believe a quality, versatile bag can be an investment. Even though designer bags are ideal, I'm sure there are plenty of great bags available for under $7000!

Thanks a lot for your comment dear :) I thought McQueen's Spring collection was fantastic!

Take care and enjoy your day!

  6. I can't justify spending thousands on a purse( for me it will pay a year of university)but I definitely believe that a nice, quality leather bag is a must :)

  7. I agree that buying a quality classic bag is the easiest and the sure way to accessorize a gal's wardrobe. Unlike a dress or jacket, a bag can be used everyday.

  8. I bought a messenger bag from perry ellis. I guess it's an investment. I have yet to use w/ a suit.

  9. I'll buy like two ridiculously expensive designer bags a year
    maybe 1
this year it was the prada fairy bag
I don't think it's an investment, these things go in and out of style
and the birkin is just overhyped- it's not like it's that special

  10. Ha! That is a great post!

I always try to justify purses with the same rationale but then I remember that no matter how much of an "investment" it is, I for sure will be coveting something later that year! Ahhh! And trust me, my family feels the same way you do...but yours just explains their rationale better!

  11. I always say....one $1000 bag is cheaper than 11 $100 bags! In order to justify just divide the bag price by the number of times you wear it ;-)

  12. I agree with Kathleen, a quality bag that is a thousand is a lot cheaper than buying a bunch of bags that I don't really care for. A gal pal wouldn't buy a Chanel bag but she will buy 3 coach bags but in the end she is still not happy. she should just have purchased the Chanel and get it over with.
