This is a qustion posed by a fellow modern gal about a Loewe bag:
I came across your blog in doing some research on a new handbag I purchased today at an antique store. I am hoping you can help me. Do you know much about vintage Loewe? The purse is an exotic skin - the lady said ostrich - although it does not look much like the ostrich skins I am seeing that are brand new. The purse is in almost perfect condition - the metals are a little dated but the inside is beautiful and it still has a small coin purse and mirror. The inside says Loewe 1846 not Loewe Madrid.
What do you think? Do you think you can point me in the right direction so I can find out if I got ripped off ... or at least find more info - maybe some pictures of vintage Loewe?
I appreciate any help you can give me :)
Savvy Gal replies:
Sorry for the late reply. I don't have sufficient knowledge about your bag and about vintage Loewe handbags to advise you if the bag is authentic. But you can go to Loewe website to look up different logos throughout the years under Mythical Story section, and click on 2008. There is a logo with Loewe 1846, circ. 1940. Loewe logo changed quite a few times since its inception. You can find all the logos under Logo's Evolution. On the same location you will be able to see pictures of various Loewe bags throughout the years under The Loewe Bag section. As for Ostrich skin, you should see pores on the bumps on the leather since feathers grew out from these pores. I hope this might help you a bit.
Best of Luck,
